The Baldwin guinea pig is a hairless breed of guinea pig that is born with fur but loses it within days or weeks from birth, developing a rubbery, wrinkled skin
The baldwin guinea pig breed is an accidental genetic mutation. A breeder in California noticed her White Crested guinea pigs going bald - probably expecting the worst - only to realize she had a new breed of adorable hairless guinea pigs at her hand.
The primary difference is when they lose their hair: Baldwin guinea pigs are born with fur but lose it all by two months old, while Skinny pigs are born with a sparse amount of fur (on their feet and nose) and remain almost completely hairless throughout their lives. Both of these breeds have different hairless genes and have no correlation to each other.
